We get a lot of people asking "do I really need antivirus software on my computer?" The answer is yes! In our opinion if you are on using a computer and you are on the internet you should be using some form of antivirus software.

Another question we are asked is "should I use free antivirus software or paid for version?" The difference between the two is that free antivirus software usually will not give you the same protection as a paid for versions. New computer viruses come out every day. So it is important for antivirus manufactures to make sure that they have their software writers come up with virus definitions and have them out for the customers as soon as possible.

For some free versions it may take the companies a week or sometimes more to come out with the antivirus definitions for their customers. This can result in a major problem if you are one of those people that use your computer a lot and surf around on many different sites. Many people use P2P networks downloading music, movies etc. These sites are known for having a lot of viruses and spyware on them.
Most computer repair facilities offer antivirus software to their customers. But unfortunately not everyone believes that then need it. Now it should be said that there are no Antivirus software programs out there that are 100% effective. But having it is much better than not.

There have been some big improvements as far as the windows operating systems and fighting viruses and spyware. Windows XP allow a very stable operating system it does have some major flaws when it comes to warding off viruses and spyware.

Windows Vista has what is called UAC. Software that is built into the operating system that helps fight computer software attacks, viruses, spyware. The combination of UAC, Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and automating updating does a very good job of keeping Vista-based machines secure. Unless a Vista user is inclined to perform foolish actions (such as intentionally subverting UAC and other security-oriented services), external anti-virus protection is usually unnecessary. However, downloading lots of software via Web sites, torrents or email can get users into the kind of trouble that these built-in protective features can't protect against.

Again we feel it is imperative for customers to use antivirus software to help protect their computers from viruses. Having any kind of antivirus software is better than not having any at all.

For more information please visit the links below.

http://www.blackmagiccomputers.com and
http://www.blackmagiccomputers.com/articles
